How it Works
Installed outside your home, generators are permanently connected to either a propane or natural gas supply and your home’s electrical service. An automatic transfer switch (ATS) continually monitors the power supply from your utility, upon an interruption it will automatically switch to power from the generator in seconds. It will run until utility service is restored then automatically shut down. 24/7 self-monitoring means power is always available whether you are home or not.
Depending on the level of comfort you choose, there are two installation types:

In this type of installation the ATS is in front of the main panel. When a service interruption occurs your generator will automatically start and supply power to all circuits in your home. The main advantage of type of installation is that you have the ability to use everything in your home. |
A sub panel is connected to your main panel. You will then select a limited number of circuits you wish to use in an emergency (only these circuits will be available the generator is operating). During an outage the generator will automatically start and supply power to the sub panel. This option gives you the protection of emergency power at a reduced cost. |
